Two of the largest communities for chatbot developers are joining forces with the belief that bots are only just getting started.
Howdy, a company backed by Bloomberg Beta and Slack among others, announced that it has acquired Bot Metrics, a year-old company funded by Social Capital and Graph Ventures.

With new rivals on the market, Amazon has to do something to help its Alexa devices compete. Until now, Amazon has not given third-party developers access to what you say to the voice assistant. Google Home, though, does. According to sources reported by The Information, Amazon is currently looking at opening up this private transcript data to its developers, which could help them build better voice apps for Alexa. It would also raise serious privacy concerns for users.
Amazon’s Alexa-everywhere approach to its digital voice assistant means the company has aggressively been pushing its AI companion onto every app and inside every device it can. Starting next week, that ever-growing list will include every Android device, so long as the phone has Amazon’s main shopping app installed. Echo device owners began seeing notifications from Amazon noting the feature rollout, and the company confirmed to TechCrunch today that the feature is indeed coming this week.
n a blog post, Slack has revealed the seven new companies backed through its $106 million ($80 million USD) Slack Fund, which the company launched in December 2015.
The fund is dedicated to early-stage investments in companies that are building apps in Slack. Companies selected for the fund fit in the B2B category, and build tools ranging from customer support to products that engineers use to speed up the development process.
According to Slack, many of these companies’ products and tools are still in the very early stages and will be coming out in the coming months.
